Obama Speaks to the Reverend

I watched the Obama news conference today with relief. His pain at having to renounce his pastor was apparent on his face, in his careful choice of words. He answered questions with great candor. But the pain never left his face, was obvious in his tone, his careful, thoughtful answers.

His paster seems to have lost his mind. Reverend Wright's performance on Moyers was one thing, then to follow it up with the coup de gras at the Press Club, was like watching a train wreck-- a once proud man gone off the track, a bit crazy with his loss of power, his diminished position. Or worst, like watching a man in the public spotlight show the first signs of some sort of old aged dementia. I felt that way watching Ronald Reagan in his last year in office. Doddering, yet still full of ego.

As soon as the press conference was over, I went to the Obama site and contributed another $25.

i'm just not getting this..... why do they keep handing Rev. Wright the microphone..... i don't think he's that interesting and i also don't understand why television keeps asking whether or not it's hurting Obama..... do they want it to or something?

why can't we talk about all the real issues in this Nation like the war and economy and, you know, the rampant rightism wrought by Dubya!

I agree, so does Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson. I suppose I could get creative and stop watching MSNBC, but it's become an addiction to watch what is supposed to be our most "liberal" cable news outlet keep pulling Pat Buchannon out of the crypt and prop him up for one more round of decaying crap. Why doesn't morning Joe stay home? In the morning. When I don't watch. Soon it will be Olbermann hour. Still I suspect it will be all Wright all the time.

Here is the story and the link saying that this might be some sort of Hillary scheme:

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright couldn't have done more damage to Barack Obama's campaign if he had tried. And you have to wonder if that's just what one friend of Wright wanted.

Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.

A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).

It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club "who organized" the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter

This is Obama's Sister Souljah moment.

yeah, Wright now has a bigger pulpit, doesn't he? And he's gonna use it to spout whatever crazy sh*t he's got in his head. I mean, let's be honest, we can say that the US hasn't always had clean hands. But did the government really invent HIV to infect black people? This is a man with the hinges coming off.. And Barry is getting beaten up for it. It's generational, maybe? Can't get past the anger? Or is it the Arrogance of the Wronged? Like, if something good actually happens (like maybe a black man actually becomes POTUS), where do I go with all of my beliefs that I've worked on for decades now? It's like he needs Obama to fail so he can be right. You had it right, sister: Shut the Fuck Up.

E, you just nailed it!

I have delayed commenting on this issue until I had a chance to read Wright's transcript at the NPC. As I expected, I felt it necessary to supplement my original post. I am glad I did that first, before visiting here. Otherwise, I would have found that E would made my labor unnecessary. (I just like the sound of my own voice!) I agree with Utah. E nailed it.

I think the Rev. Wright got a little too much ego for his own good. Pride goeth before the fall.

It's unfortunate, but it looks as if Wright threw Obama under the bus, not the other way around.

No one said it was going to be a walk in the park, taking the power back from the Powermongers. Keep your chins up and remind everyone that there vote DOES Count= maybe more than ever this time.
