Russia v Georgia and U.S. "Outrage"

From Salon today:
Aug. 14, 2008 | "The run-up to the current chaos in the Caucasus should look quite familiar: Russia acted unilaterally rather than going through the U.N. Security Council. It used massive force against a small, weak adversary. It called for regime change in a country that had defied Moscow. It championed a separatist movement as a way of asserting dominance in a region it coveted.

Indeed, despite George W. Bush and Dick Cheney's howls of outrage at Russian aggression in Georgia and the disputed province of South Ossetia, the Bush administration set a deep precedent for Moscow's actions -- with its own systematic assault on international law over the past seven years. Now, the administration's condemnations of Russia ring hollow."

actually, Russia was not the aggressor. Georgia started it by attacking south ossetia, thinking that the US would back them up when Russia would react. I've got a whole 'shit' load of links and posts about it.. somethin' smelled in the White House and it was yet again the neocon idiots.. ok, bad analogy but I'm kinda sick today.. anyhoo..check out the links I have as there is so much more than what Salon talks about. Yes, Bush and co is outrated because the Monroe doctrine only applies to US.. well, you don't mess in someone's backyard and expect to get to dig some more.. Georgia has received military and financial aid from US and Israel and Saakashvili was conveniently propped up after the orange revolution..aah..don't get me started.. [g]

I'm not that familiar with the political situation in Georgia. But McCain, Bush and Cheney doing the war monger's dance is sickeningly cynical. I'll visit your place later today.

When you go around breaking the rules only the fools or the blatant delusional liars whine when someone else does it.

Georgia did start it and Russia had no trouble following our example so, yeah, how can the Bush administration say any fucking thing about it at all?

Can't we just send some crack squad of A-Team commandos to round up every world leader, feed them all to Cheney, then shoot Cheney into the sun? Should keep things mellow for at least a few weeks.

Ring hollow???? So hollow there's a deafening echo in them. So loud Condi Rice has to wear earphones. (Turned off!)

ooooH, the Bush administration is all mad because Russia will not withdraw according to a "timeline"!!!

Maybe we could convince them to use a time "horizon"?????

too bad this administration's outrage isn't directed at china and their treatment of tibet. I don't hear Bush and his ilk yelling for the Chinese to get the fuck out of tibet.

Actually the Russian affair was implemented by the US... The Georgian government were released by the US, read given the go ahead, and the rest is pure spin.

Russia, another empire, is attempting to cut a swathe into Georgia, and Georgia, with the aid of the US, etc, is attempting, or was attempting, to influence a conflict thinking that Russia would not call their bluff. Russia has called it and raised the ante and there are innocents on both sides of the aisle being slaughtered. The US, Russia knew, was (has been) neutered from its imperialistic marching as of late and now Russia is proving that they too are an aggressive force to be reckoned with. Shame on all sides. The US, Russia, Georgia....

The Russian and Georgian, etc, peoples must rise up and tell the US, Russia, Georgia, etc, to get the hell out of their land and stop this dangerous and lethal attempt to grab more land for their respective empires!

The US government knew (and planned) this was coming. Russian governement knew (and planned) this was coming. Georgian government knew (and planned) this was coming. It is the people of all the aforementioned governments that must now demand that this conflict come to an abrupt end.

For a better qualified voice on this conflict I highly recommend reading Reneade Eye's post http://advant.blogspot.com/2008/08/
