The Weather Outside is Frightful

Oh how I don't want to go out in the snow. But shoveling must be done, icicles need to be removed from the eves, the car cleaned off, the driveway cleared, the gate opened, etc, etc, etc. Just typing that made me tired. Maybe I'll take a nap instead.

I doubt it will be any consolation but we've been marooned here in Portland by snow. We live above the 500ft range in a townhouse apt close to our jobs but distant from the grocery stores. Our garage is under the building at the end of a steep little hill thick with uncleared ice.

I'm having a cup of tea and praying for rain. I hope you're well.

I'm teetering on the bring of being either fine or terrible. It might help if I just bit the bullet and either shoveled snow or vacuumed the house. But to do nothing constructive on either of those fronts makes me feel.. Well... Dirty.

The good thing about having a kid is that I can make him do the vacuuming. I'm not sure that justifies the ongoing noise and expense of having a child, but everything has compensations. The good thing about living in New York City is that someone else is generally shoveling the snow. Again, I'm not sure that justifies the ongoing noise and expense . . .

PEN, you made me laugh. I thought I'd forgotten how. Thanks. But now I want a child. Where can I buy one?

I have three for sale. Slightly used, a bit mouthy, but pretty skilled to clean. They've been taught. They may, however, claim ignorance.

Name your price.

Dcu, great post today. You may be on your way to a hard earned cynicism regarding romance, the American way. Nothing like a dose of something near fatal to clear up the vision thing.

Have you ever read "the Lovely Bones?" Stay in and nap...the icicles could be dangerous!

No, but it's in my library waiting for me. How could I have missed this one?

Just as bad here. We got 25 inches in 2 days. I left my car at work last Wednesday night. It encased in ice and snow. When is Spring?

I was snowed in for 2 days, but, got out today for a few things. We have 2 more storms lined up to come through. Oh tidings of joy! NOT!

Stay warm and fine my friend. Talk soon.

Oh, those icicles! I remember them well from Maine. They would form on the porch overhang and reach two stories to the ground.

We never had long icicles form from the trees. They may be "frightful," but I have to admit that they are so beautiful clusered together like that.

Oh I am so NOT a winter person. It plays havoc on my moods and temperament. I make myself do things I otherwise would not - but it is cathartic. I would die on the spot if I had to shovel snow...that's why the children get the big bucks in the neighborhbood.

Again, I'm saying wait until someone else does it. Until someone else can pave the way for you, play in it, strap on some cross-country skis, or even some snowshoes--but do not shovel!

Instead of vacuuming, soak in a nicely scented bubble bath, the kind with real bubbles. That will clean you up. Vacuuming will only jar your nerves and stir up all the dust that's settled into a nice, quiet niche. You know what's dirty? Changing the bag.
