Mathman's High School Marching Band Goes To Washington
When I read this the tears started flowing and now all I have to do is think about it and I cry all over again. I could not be prouder of these young people, or more thrilled at their adventure, their participation in the most important Inauguration in my lifetime. How proud they all must be, their excitement must be near excruciating. And our very own Mathman, teacher extraordinaire, will chaperone this fine group of student musicians as they travel together to the nation's capital to march in the grand parade. Congratulations! We are all so proud of you young people as if you are our very own children. Thank you, Mathman for being the chaperone to take them there, to keep them safe, to shepherd them into this amazing moment in History. They will never forget it. They will never forget you.

That is wonderful news and I don't blame you for crying. There's no good reason why a better world can't be NOW :-)
Peace and blessings, my friend.
I forgot all about Mathman's adventure...I'll have to check and see if Lisa is going also. OMG - can you imagine being there? Even though there will be millions - the electricity would be exhilirating. I'm keeping thegrandson home to watch on TV...screw the school system.
That's great! Somehow I missed the news that this is Mathman's school's band! How exciting!
Utah, thanks for posting this story. It is an amazing thing this trip. The Atlanta community has gotten behind the band and our school and great thing s have happened
very kewl.... i wish i had a music video of them to post....
Good news? I'm glad I'm sitting down. What a wonderful story. Thank you, Utah.
Mathman, I am awed and thrilled for you that on January 20, you and your band will march at the inauguration. I wish you all the best.
Way to go, Atlanta!
Mathman, think music video. You must document this trip. I got my invitation today (really) but my neurotic dog and I will be celebrating the day glued to the tube watching for a glimpse of the band. These kids will never forget this. Big things for them ahead.
I melt down over the task of writing a pitch, blubbering at least twice a day. 300 words is not many. It has to grab the reader and make them want to pick up their chunk of the manuscript and dig in. Short punchy powerful words are needed here. I hope I have it in me. No doubt I will cry again before I go to bed at 3 or so. Nothing scheduled tomorrow but editing and editing and editing. Cuts will be made. It's about time. I have changed the names to protect the grandchildren of the guilty. Only Maggy gets to keep her name. But all the principles are dead by now. I am the only one left to tell the story. I am not objective nor is my viewpoint uncontaminated by my own complicity in the long going sick drama of madness and control that was my mother's power over me.
I love this story because I've been able to watch the band grow since the new director came to the school in 2005. They've done great things and I'm glad to see them rewarded for their hard work.
I'm also so glad that MathMan gets to go with them since he has worked off and on with the band over the last few years.
Saw the story on the news about the band and the moving company that donated a moving van trailer to the school. They will also haul the trailer with the band instruments to DC and back.
Everything about this story is terrific. I hope Mathman keeps weighing in with updates. Best feel good story of the year. Maybe the past 8. We heart you Mathman.
