Back To The Drawing Board

I feel the need to re-edit the first three chapters of the novel. I want feedback from those of you who write and those of you who read fiction. After having been rejected based on my excerpt (the first three chapters) I know that excerpt has to be the strongest hook I can throw out there. I know there are excellent editors among you, Nan. I want to know how willing you are to participate.

So give me a little feed back here, please. Before I post those chapters one at a time, I'd like to know how you feel about a collaboration.

I'm willing, but remember my forte is editing nonfiction, not creative material, and even worse -- the nonfiction I edit is produced by people who work for the government.

I'll do what I can. I'm your biggest fan.

I'd love to help out, but I should probably be limited to feedback of a literary, not grammatical/structural bent. I never met a run-on sentence that I didn't have a torrid love affair with and would make an awful editor. I'm willing to torch and pitchfork Amazon, though.

I've got it, submit it under the pseudonym Danielle Steele-Clancy-King.

I'll take that as a well qualified yes. Thank you. It will be just the first three chapters that I'm posting, and I'll post them one at a time and work on them in public, instead of alone and in the dark. I'm too close to the material. I need a bit of objectivity.

I am not much of a reader or a writer, but I do like cake and ice cream. :o)

Randal I like the name change. The only Stephen King thing I ever read was being made for a movie here in SL and I had a small part. So I had to hold my nose and read it. Gawd it was awful. So this means I'm fucked, no?

And don't you think Peggy Pendleton sounds like a nom de plume? Is that the correct frenchy word for a fictitious name?

Dr. Z, I promise cake and ice cream, as who doesn't like cake and ice cream?

If my input would help, why not?

I'm up for it - count me in.

Utah Savage said...

Macrum, you know your input would help. You're a damn fine writer, plus you know the material.

Lady F. Thank you, I'll be very interested in your input.

You make me blush, Utah. Anything to distract me from editing my own work is okay with me.

I have been known to read occasionally.

I know how to read, and I used to belong to a writers group. If I may be of assistance, sign me up, too.

Thanks, Kulkuri, I'll post the opening chapter later this afternoon. This will no doubt only matter to you if you live on the east coast as it is coming on evening there.

I'm much happier knowing that you are all with me. I was in a funk thinking I'd have to edit these three chapters again for the umpteenth time alone and once again do nothing to make any of it better.

Nan is an excellent choice. I am a good reader, not much on what "editing" involves. I have no problem with reading though. You are the bomb, and look at all the help you have - I'm impressed. Hope you are feeling better now.

I am, thank you TheMom.

Curious, did they leave any comments on how to re-edit it? Or what they did or didn't like?

#1 fan in a Annie Wilkes kinda touchy feely way :)

Re: King, I will defend his older stuff because a lot of it IS quite good and he likes to pile on the backstory, which is a thumbs up.

Do you remember what flick it was?

See, you already have a great name for publishing. There's consonance and it flows well, unlike if you had just come from Warsaw (shut up and relax, Polish immigrants).

It was The Stand. Gawd Awful stuff.

first off..
you have a great name and are a wonderful story teller...
I will be happy to read for you...I don't think In am a good enough"editor"..and I don't know fiction enough..I am more of a non fiction person...but I would be happy to read and give any feedback if that would help...
