I always enjoyed watching Leonard Bernstein and how wacky he could get at times. He has a great sense of humor which shined through these performances.
Candid was mentioned in the movie I watched last night, and sent me searching for the best clip of that overture. It was of course Bernstein who gave it just the perfect pitch.

watching a great conductor is every bit as thrilling as the music. when i grow up i want to be just like Lennie.
As long as Berstein doesn't conduct Beethoven, he's so bloody terrible at it.
