It's not the being stupid and ignorant that bothers me, but the celebration of it, the elevation of it to something to be admired. I have rednecks in my family - they have nothing that would pass for "acceptable" taste. They are low on what's considered "respectability," but they know right from wrong and they know that keeping your foot on that guy's neck is just making it easier for the guy with his foot on your neck to hold you down, too. They sure as hell don't confuse religion with patriotism, nor do they consider themselves conservatives because they understand that they have a middle class, keep your Christmas lights up year round lifestyle because of unions and public schools, to name but two things.
