Dust Bowl Chic from Ralph Lauren

This thrills me because I can put this together for about $30 from my favorite thrift store.  Half of it is at the back of my closet. Oh joy it's going to be an easy Spring.

Why do they torture women with ridiculous shoes???

Wearing totally funky overalls fit for a barn w stiletto heels???

What a load.

Some of the old style hats & simple stuff is cool, but the really raggy stuff.... hell you can get lots of it for cheap @ the Goodwill.

I can't believe people pay big bucks for designer name rags.

I can't help but think the recession has something to do with this downscale look. But you're right, Fran, we could buy it at Goodwill for nearly nothing and for the women who buy Ralph Lauren this is pricy stuff.

The jeans have wondering as I have been for years now, who in their right mind would pay big bucks for jeans that are ripped(artistically or not), worn out and dirty looking??? My jeans are usually in better shape when I replace them. Thrift stores wouldn't put clothes like that on the rack for sale.

That should have been "The jeans have 'me' wondering....."

I like the Annie Hall elements of this collection. I have always liked that look. But God save us from another decade of women wearing overalls. Overalls look good on no one!

I like the 30s style dresses and the hats. I like the sensible shoes with socks. I wouldn't wear them, but I like that look on the models.

The torn and funky jeans & overalls are ridiculous, but I'm hoping RL junkies are going to be wearing them so we can all have a good laugh.

I like those 30s style dresses with the shoes and socks and the hats are great.

I was digging the music more than anything.

i like all those looks a lot. i guess i'm a little crazy in that i think the stiletto's and jeans create a great juxtaposition. very few people will actually wear that combination, but for the runway it's kind of cool.

as for some of the dresses, i believe that Anthropologie has been selling that style for years. and the slouchy jeans are already being sold as "boyfriend jeans" by a lot of designers.

what i like best about this, is that while i was in "weather exile" at my sister's house in new jersey, we spent time going through a lot of my mother's old photos of her and her friends growing up in the 1930's in the scranton area of pennsylvania ... and there you had it: the big dungaree's and flannel shirts and caps. the reason they wore those things was because everyone had to work if there was work, and her her town, it was factory work for just about everyone. and that was the "uniform."

thanks for posting this utah.

Anita, I feel exactly the same way about this look. I too like the odd juxtaposition of the hat, the dress, the shoes with ankle socks or the big jeans and the high heels. I've always loved the 30s look in both men's and women's fashion.

It's always such a treat to see you here.

I really like all the looks, and the juxtaposition of the heels with the raggedy look is interesting - of course, as Fran says, those shoes would be torture. I can't wear anything like that, my shoes have to have sensible heels at about 1 inch tops! Of course, it's good to know we can get clothes like this at the local thrift shop and the 30s style dresses at vintage clothing shops! A lot cheaper that way! Loved the music!

The music was really great. I think it's why I like this section of the show the most. It isn't the clothes, it's the great music.
