Oh, what a beautiful yard. It's a sanctuary.

Freida, it's the wages of bipolar disorder. I have become such a recluse I spent twenty years turning it into this sanctuary and ruined my back in the process. Manic phases produce pathways, thousands of credit card dollar binges on perennials. Depression let the mint and Vinca Major take over, creeping Jenny and honeysuckle, grapevines, and wisteria climb toward the sun, into the top of the plum tree untrimmed, untamed. Now I just sit in the sun in the morning, and the shade of the gazebo in the afternoon, drinking Iced tea and smoking, when I'm not watching Keith and wondering if he hasn't just gone on camera after a tryst with Dusty.

I really liked the last picture of the bench beside the pathway. It liked a good place for some solitary thinking. At times the kids and my wife all seem to be yelling my name at once and while outside in the yard I never feel really alone with all the houses around us.

Utah - I love your description of how your garden "happened." I can totally relate. Our gardens have reflected where my head is over and over.

Diva, was it Dusty? You really know how to plunge the knife in and give it a little twist.

Love the photos. Lots of green and shadow. Good for hiding out and picking off disgruntled vacuum cleaner salesmen with your BB gun.

beach bum, I couldn't have said it better myself. There's never an escape, is there. ;-)

PS, I told Kieth to 'give you some' you obviously need it and as the first born, I know how to fucking share...lucky you. ;)

Ah, Utah, I'm afraid you and Stephanie Miller would come to blows on this one.

She's the one reason I miss commuting in the car every morning.
