Party Prep

Ms M is having a Fourth of July party. I like this part of the party plans. The yard is picked up, the yard furniture arranged, the dogs snoozing in the late afternoon sun or investigating a spider. It's peaceful and pretty. I like the quiet before the fireworks or the crowds of festive drinkers. Cyrus needs to go out one last time before I give him his tranquilizer. The loud noises distress him terribly.

I will post a Do Not Disturb sign on my door and watch the Margaret Cho comedy special I taped on Showtime. That's what independence day means to me. Let the party begin!

I am not big on parties. Like you, I am avoiding parties this Fourth and will instead try to keep Lily calm.

Calm for dogs and difficult women. It works for me. Not to say you are difficult, LBR, but complexity can seem difficult to the simple. I used to wish to be simple. Now I enjoy my simple complexity when and where I can, and that's mostly alone at home.

I really am difficult, in a delightful way, or so says He-weasel. ;-) We just saw Woody Allen's movie and the main character, who I related to a whole lot, had so much trouble with people for the reasons you explain:"complexity can seem difficult to the simple." I think you would really like the film.

My wife's dog Sparky is a nervous wreck right now. All the fireworks going off scare him.

Cyrus is about to be disturbed. It's 9:00 and getting dark. And there are so many grown men who turn into twelve year olds in July. Firecrackers or something that makes a lot of noise and sounds like gun fire.

Enjoy your calm before the fireworks

I can sleep during a fireworks show so long as it isn't happening in the vicinity of the dry roof of my house or the equally dry woods of the park outside.

We all celebrate in our own way - including the idiot at the grocery store who played 'Battle Hymn of the Republic' and 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' while I was shopping for our regular supplies. I'd like to think he got around to Dylan's 'Masters of War' after I left.

Have a peaceful evening.

I hope you enjoyed your day. You deserve a day for yourself.

Yea, they cleaned the yard up very nicely. I have never thrown a party where we live because I never think things are presentable, but I know the quickest remedy for that is to plan a party.

Happy celebration of consuming and killing for the freedom to consume, Utah. May our gentle non-participation be proliferated.
