Watching The Sotomayor Hearings

I will be glued to CSpan today and for the next few days watching the Sotomayor confirmation hearings. I can remember all the past hearings of my adult life. There is very little is more compelling than these hearings. If you doubt this, find a way to go back in time to the hearings dominated by Anita Rice's testemony. I always have a hard time remembering Clarence Thomas's name because he was so over shadowed by Rice's testimony. I hated Arlin Spector . He was the chairman of that hearing. My hatred of Spector has cooled a bit over the years but not enough to forget how dismissive he was of Anita Rice, a woman who would have been a much better nominee than Thomas.

These hearings will be punctuated by my trips to Z's to take and pick her up from chemo. Yes, she has agreed to chemo. I would not have put money on the bet that she would go with the advise of Dr Ackerly. She hates him and thinks he's an arrogant asshole who doesn't care about her, the very individual, special, delicate her. No he cares about curing her cancer. That's what matters to me. I'm very happy that she has finally realized her life is on the line, and she is willing to really fight for it.

It bothered me today listening to that. Republicans made Empathy sound like a dirty Partisan word.
On a more important note I am glad Z is taking the Chemo. Keeping hope and Z alive! Yeah!

Republican is starting to be a synonym for douchebag. Only republicans could make a word like empathy sound dirty. Won't someone get those guys a dictionary.

hmm, the repugs, I am conflicted whether to call them douchebags or fuckers...this hearing should be historic moment but the repugs are doing their damnest to piss on the moment....

Heard my senator's, Lindsey Graham, little statement during the hearing and wanted to puke. His condension was as thick as cold molasses.

I wish I could write the other senator from South Carolina was better but he is currently unavailable. Being a Ventriloquist dummy though he needs someone's hand up his ass to decide what he needs to say and to say it.

Today was a huge ass waste of time. I did not want to listen to all those blowhards and douchenozzles wax poetic.

Judge Sotomayor spoke for less than five minutes..why didn't they make the assholes stick to that time limit too?

Sotomayor will be a great Supreme Court Justice...... Supreme Court Justices don't make Liberal calls because they are Liberal activists..... they make Liberal calls because the Constitution; the Law of the Land is a Liberal document..... They should keep right on making rulings based on strict Liberal interpretation of the Law.

For Republicans

I wonder what that white dyslexic fire-fighter from New Haven CT thinks about Judge Sotomayor's penchant for empathy. My suspicion is not very much.

Frankly Will I don't give a crap what the white firefighter in New Haven thinks about her empathy. I know how that gaming the system works in favor of white firemen. I dated one and he liked to talk about it. He was a firefighter in LA, but still he admitted the bias against everyone but white guys. When they were finally forced to accept minorities and then (oh the horror)women it was ugly for awhile. Then they finally got a Chief who went through a sex reassignment and they all went through "sensitivity training." The stories were very entertaining. Congress needs some sensitivity training. Maybe the whole country needs a little sensitivity training. Christ, just learning what the word "empathy" means would be a start.

Everybody knew what was going to be covered on that test. And everybody had the same tools to study with. This poor guy spent $1,000 of his own money for a tutor (because of his learning disability). I certainly have empathy for him. Especially in the year 2009. P.S. This wasn't a test to become a fire-fighter. This was a test for promotion, and the written part was only a part of it.

Thanks Anita. I really needed that. How terribly embarrassing. I'd better start making better use of Wiki.
